At Northwest Spine and Pain Medicine

we believe in giving back to our community

NWSPM went on a mission trip to Peru! December 2020, Dr. Lewis, Dr. Fernandez , their daughters—Ember and Elleah, and medical assistants (at the time) Karlee Orvik and Tonya Nimri, traveled to a little village outside of Lima, Peru. While there, they collaborated with local providers to set up a free clinic, offering medical and dental care. Their line for services wrapped around the entire makeshift clinic, and, even with a language barrier, patients were happy to be seen.

In an attempt at preventative care, Dr. Lewis had loaded his travel bags with children's vitamins and they were able to distribute those throughout the village. Thanks to the Marantha Program, they were also able to give away free eyeglasses and medication.

On Christmas morning, our NWSPM team hiked up into the hills where many of the villages most impoverished families live in single-room homes with no running water. Our group felt abundantly blessed to be able to offer these families food and Christmas presents.
Back in Spokane, the rest of our NWSPM crew loved seeing pictures and hearing tidbits about the joy of their journey! We were once again reminded, "For it is in giving that we receive".
